Sheikh Saeed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the representative of the ruler of Abu Dhabi, passed away on July 27, days after it was revealed that he had been “going through a health problem.”

 

UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan mourned the death of his late brother. The funeral prayer was performed at Sheikh Sultan Bin Zayed the First Mosque in Abu Dhabi. After the funeral prayer, Sheikh Mohamed and the Al Nahyan family travelled to Abu Dhabi's Al Bateen Cemetery to attend Sheikh Saeed's burial, Gulf Today reported. 

 

According to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), the Court of Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Supreme Council member and ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, mourned the death of Sheikh Saeed and ordered the flag flown at half-mast in the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah for three days. 

 

It is worth mentioning that in June 2010, Sheikh Saeed was assigned as the representative of the ruler of Abu Dhabi. Sheikh Saeed formerly served as the chairman of the Maritime Port Authority (Abu Dhabi), Al Arabiya News reported. 

 

After Sheikh Saeed bin Zayed Al Nahyan's passing was reported, condolences poured in. Former Emirati basketball player Mohamed Al Jneibi wrote that Sheikh Saeed was one of the UAE's most important sports visionaries, the Economic Times reported. 

 

According to Youm7, Sheikh Saeed bin Zayed Al Nahyan was born in 1965 in Al Ain. He was the sixth son of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in political science and economics in 1988. He was the chairman of the Board of Directors of the UAE Football Association from 2001-2002, and he was a member of Abu Dhabi Executive Council between 2004 and 2010.
